Dental Implants

Dental Implants are an innovative solution for those men and women looking to replacing missing teeth. If you are currently missing one or more teeth, or suffer with an imperfect smile due to damage, decay or disease, dental implants can help. When inserted into the jawbone, implants act as an anchor or ‘artificial tooth root’, designed to support dental prosthetics (crown’s, bridges, dentures, etc.) Why continue to struggle with an imperfect smile when a better solution is now available? Learn more and find out if Dental Implants are right for you.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are stable, long-term solutions for broken, damaged, decayed and missing teeth. They provide patient with a smile that looks and feels natural—all with long-lasting results. But what exactly are dental implants?

A dental implant consists of three main parts: a titanium implant base, which is anchored in the jawbone, where the bone fuses with the titanium alloy, providing stable support, not unlike a tooth’s natural root structure. A metal retaining fixture, which is socket-like in shape and attaches to the bottom of the dental prosthetic. The retaining fixture fits snugly over the head of the implant, also known as the abutment, which protrudes from the gum line after the implant is placed. The third part is the rubber o-ring which resides inside the retaining fixture. The o-ring provides an airtight fit, giving the implant long-lasting stability.

When all three parts are joined together they give patients the look and feel of natural teeth.

Types of Dental Implants

Advances in dental technology have brought about two main types of dental implants: traditional dental implants and mini dental implants (MDIs). Both utilize titanium alloy to provide long-lasting stability, however mini dental implants are significantly smaller than their traditional counterparts, allowing for replacement of even a single tooth.

Because of their smaller stature, MDIs are less invasive, can be placed in fewer treatments, and often cost less than traditional implants. Depending on a variety of individual factors, one or both of these implant types may work for you.

Effectiveness of Dental Implants

For qualified candidates, dental implants have a success rate of over 95%, and can often last a lifetime with regularly scheduled dental visits and proper oral and dental hygiene.
